Young conductor Tugan Sokhiev, a native of the Caucasus region, makes his Symphony Center debut with Alexander Borodin's gorgeous In the Steppes of Central Asia, a symphonic poem written to celebrate the silver anniversary of the reign of Alexander II of Russia. Principal CSO flutist Mathieu Dufour stars in Khachaturian's Flute Concerto, an adaptation by Jean-Pierre Rampal of the composer's Violin Concerto. Tchaikovsky's epic Fourth Symphony brings the all-Russian program to a powerful close.
