100 best things we ate (and drank) in 2011 | Food trucks

Curb appeal
Catching up with food trucks in Chicago was not a problem this year—in fact, the things were as prevalent and predictable as blunders in a Republican presidential debate (hey-oh!). In reality, the problem was sussing out the truly delicious food from the stuff no one would consider eating if it weren’t being served out of a moving vehicle. But the real deal presented itself as Spam musubi from Homage Street Food, braised lamb sandwich from Hummingbird Kitchen, mole-drenched tamales from Tamalespaceship and the malloraca, a Puerto Rican take on the monte cristo, from Isla de Cafe. These should silence any noise about our lackluster street-food scene.
