Soup & Bread returns to the Hideout tonight

Man cannot live on bread alone. Fortunately, thanks to Martha Bayne, the creator of Soup & Bread, we have soup. The third season of the weekly soup dinner and hunger-relief fundraiser kicks off at 5:30pm tonight (Wednesday, January 4) at the Hideout, and donations benefit the Casa Catalina Basic Human Needs Center. Six soups supplied by the likes of "beef stew aficionado" Niall Munnelly, "fennel freak" Bonnie Tawse, Michael Slaboch of Numero Group, Swim Cafe and more will please visiting palates while DJ Treetop Lover spins the soundtrack, and La Farine Bakery brings the bread.
After raising over $10,000 for Chicago-area food banks and other charities in pay-what-you-can donations, branching out with a cookbook and hosting a cross-country tour, Soup & Bread can now be found back at the Hideout every Wednesday at 5:30pm until April 11 (excluding January 18 to accommodate Portandia: The Tour).
Future Soup & Bread contributors include Mana Food Bar, Lula Cafe, Inspiration Cafe, City Provisions, Smoque BBQ and many more restaurants, as well as a supply of interesting individuals, writers, musicians and food activists. Also on deck: visiting DJs, including Brian Case and Jeremy Lemos, Peter Margasak, Jon Langford and Carrie Weston.
