Grill-N-Griddle With this gyro/burger/hot-dog joint, the West Loop just became a little more everyman. 651 W Washington Blvd (312-207-0988). Breakfast, lunch (closed Sat, Sun). Average main course: $5.
Hannah’s Bretzel The health-conscious, German-influenced sandwich shop brings its housemade pretzels to the West Loop. 555 W Monroe St (312-621-1111). Breakfast (Mon–Fri), lunch. Average main course: $9.
HASH It claims to be a hash-only restaurant (that’s corned beef hash, etc.). But the truth is this place serves bagels, salads and sandwiches, too. 1357 N Western Ave (773-661-2964). Breakfast, lunch (closed Tue). Average main course: $7.
The Haute & the Dog Dion Antic turned his bagel shop into a hot-dog shop. 1252 N Damen Ave (312-720-8185). Lunch, dinner. Average hot dog: $4.
BUZZY Horse Thief Hollow This place brews its own beer and makes barbecue from a smoker it purchased from Lillie’s Q. In other words, it’s the biggest thing that’s happened in Beverly since the invention of square-cut pizza. 10426 S Western Ave (773-779-2739). Lunch, dinner. Average main course: $10.

Mas Alla Del Sol Mexican food—and fresh-juice cocktails—from the people who run Los Nopales. 5848 N Broadway (773-654-1900). Dinner (closed Mon). Average main course: $18.
Mr. Spanky’s “Stuffed buns” (Chinese-style buns sandwiching braised meats) are the signature at this quick carryout spot, which also dabbles in salads, soups and housemade bacon. 335 W 31st St. Lunch, dinner (closed Sun–Tue). Average sandwich: $3.50.
Oliver’s Café Oliver Valenzuela’s Bridgeport restaurant serves eclectic dishes like cinnamon-braised beef tenderloin and a dessert egg roll. 451 W 31st St (312-791-1230). Dinner (closed Mon). Average main course: $14.
Pide ve Lahmacun Just as the name suggests, this spot traffics in two types of Turkish “pizza”: lahmajun (thinner, smaller pies) and pide (bigger stuffed pies). 1812 W Irving Park Rd (773-248-6344). Breakfast, lunch, dinner (closed Sun). Average main course: $9.
Pizza House 1647 At this pizzeria, thin-crust whole wheat pizzas are sold as pies; thicker, white-flour slices are served by the slice. 1647 W Cortland Ave (773-252-3500). Dinner (closed Mon). Average main course: $13.
