Plum Market opens today in Old Town
Judging by the big crowd that swarmed Plum Market on its opening day this morning, it's safe to say the residents of Old Town are excited about a new gourmet grocery in their 'hood. And I don't blame them. This location of Plum Market is the only one outside of Michigan (the small chain is based in that state) and has brought with it a few exclusives, including a counter serving Zingerman's Bakehouse products. Other things to know about Plum Market: It has a heavy focus on locally produced goods (Carol's Cookies, Crumb Bread); it features sushi by Takashi Yagihashi; there's an Intelligenstia located inside (along with a wine bar and a fro-yo counter); and it even offers delivery service. This place is like a more manageable version of the mammoth Whole Foods in Lincoln Park.
I snapped a few pics of the store this morning. But it's a good idea to stop by during its opening week. The free samples might be gone, but Plum Market is offering some good opening-week deals: Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label ($39.99, normally $60), Talenti Gelato (two for $5) and more than 45% off at the artisan cheese station. Plum Market is open 8am–10pm every day.
