Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams announces opening date
When we heard that renowned ice cream shop Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream was coming to Chicago, we were excited. And then we spent an afternoon in the office digging into a few of the creamy pints and got even more excited—seriously, while we have no idea what "brambleberry" is, it's our new favorite ice cream flavor.
While Jeni's has been available in pints around Chicago for awhile—we've spotted it at Publican Quality Meats, among other places—the new scoop shop, opening at 11am on September 14 on the Southport Corridor, means you won't have to drop $12 for a pint anymore and can get ice cream in single servings. And there's even better news: You can get your first scoops free.
So cancel your plans next Friday night, because Jeni's is holding a public preview party at the shop (3404 N. Southport Ave) on September 13 from 7–10pm. There will be free scoops of ice cream for everyone and commemorative posters for the first 50 people there. While you can't really go wrong with any Jeni's flavor (we can't wait to try the whiskey and pecans or Riesling poached pear), we also loved the salty caramel, which strikes just the right balance between sweet and savory.
