Hamburger Hop at Chicago Gourmet 2013
Chicago Gourmet, which runs all weekend, features an abundance of drinks and dishes, so there's no better way to get your stomach ready than by eating 15 burgers and drinking lots of beer. We hit the Hamburger Hop last night, where 15 chefs faced off on the roof of the Harris Theater in the annual burger cook-off.
Howells & Hood's Scott Walton took home the judges' prize for his kimchi burger, topped with housemade kimchi, bread and butter pickle aioli and carrot bacon. Jeff Mauro, Host of the Food Network's "Sandwich King" and "$24 in 24", took home the People's Choice Award for his recipe, which included havarti and jalapenos.
Walton's burger was one of our favorites, and we also really liked The Gage's Peter Coenen's burger, topped with green dragon sauce, bread and butter zucchini pickle relish and pork belly, and Rockit Burger Bar's Amanda Downing's burger, which had brie, fried shallots and medjool date aioli.
