Family affair

Gloria Santiago’s family will tell you the Colombia native is a fantastic cook. But it’s her first-generation nephew, Rafael Santiago (pictured, left), who believed in her so much that he’s betting Chicago needs a bit of Gloria (pictured, right), too. When the two open Gloria’s Café this week, they’ll offer Gloria’s traditional dishes—arepas, empanadas, rotisserie chicken, skirt steak slathered in chimichurri sauce—while also dishing up what Rafael says Logan Square needs: “We’ll be a perfect spot to stop in and grab breakfast, like Colombian coffee with a fresh buñuelo or cheese bread. Or you can stop by for lunch and have something light like a hummus plate that’s twisted to be a bit Latin American, and then come for dinner for my aunt’s specialties.” Sounds like Gloria has a talent manager most artists would envy. 3300 W Fullerton Ave at Spaulding Ave (773-342-1050).—Heather Shouse
