LET THEM EAT CUPCAKES Yeah, yeah, yeah, cupcakes are over, the trend has peaked, we’ve had enough already, right? Not so fast. With the arrival of More Cupcakes on the Gold Coast, we might be witnessing the trend’s resurgence. Owner Patty Rothman enlisted pastry chef Gale Gand to consult on her store’s cupcakes, and she and the store’s chef, Todd Maturatai, plan to keep 50 flavors in rotation. Some of those will be savory cupcakes (a BLT cupcake with ranch frosting and tiny slices of tomato), some will be classic (Valrhona chocolate ganache) and some will be “moresels”—mini cupcakes available in flights of six or a dozen. All of the cupcakes in the store are arranged in a floor-to-ceiling display that looks more like pop art than something you’d be allowed to eat—not that that’s likely to stop you. 1 E Delaware Pl at State St (312-951-0001).
