Bars for the Cubs/Cards showdown
Five bars to watch the series this weekend
Bobbie’s Runaway (5305 N Damen Ave, 773-271-6488)
This dive bar boasts a picture of Wrigley Field with a sign above it: “Believe or leave.” Sounds oddly threatening, but after having the Sunday special of five beers for 12 bucks, people start to warm up.
Clincher’s (2101 W 18th Pl, 312-226-3970)
This Pilsen sports bar may have Sox gear side-by-side with Cubs paraphernalia, but its unassuming side-street location and cheap pitchers make it a great South Side spot to watch the game.
Merkle’s Bar and Grill (3516 N Clark St, 773-244-1025)
This place is named after a New York Giant who cost his team the game against the Cubs due to an error called Merkle’s Boner. If you can sit here and not crack a boner joke, you’re a stronger person than us.
Grace’s (5219 W Diversey Ave, 773-622-2420)
There’s something to be said for diplomacy, even in baseball. This joint plays Cubs games on the northern TV and Sox games on the southern TV and has an online jukebox, suitable for every taste.
Captain Morgan Club (Southeast corner of Wrigley Field, 1060 W Addison St)
It’s safe to say you won’t get any closer to the game than at this new bar attached to Wrigley. That is, unless you’re inside the park. But with 30 flat-screens and a full menu of pub grub here, save the dough on the ticket and buy another round.
