Edzo's Burger Shop

Eddie Lakin has trouble coming up with remarkable things to say about his new Evanston burger restaurant. “It’s just your typical Vienna Beef burger joint,” he’ll tell you. And that, of course, is exactly the kind of unremarkableness that will set Edzo’s Burger apart. Lakin, a chef who turned to food blogging when he lost his job in 2008, is bringing the hamburger spot back to its roots, offering only a handful of toppings (none of which involve truffles or foie gras), a few milkshakes (no, you won’t know the name of the ice cream he’s using) and classic Chicago hot dogs. Will the fries be cut every morning, and will the burgers be made with beef that’s ground in-house? Yes. And maybe that veers from tradition a little. But since he’s keeping the prices in line with old-school joints, we’ll cut him a little slack. 1571 Sherman Ave, Evanston (847-864-3396).
