On the table: SmallBar III
Phil McFarland and Ty Fujimura of the mini SmallBar empire are looking to go three for three when they open up another sibling for their super popular neighborhood bars this summer. They just signed a lease for the former St. Paul's Billiards, which saw a bit of fame when it was used for some shots during the filming of The Color of Money. McFarland says to expect a similar SmallBar that you know and love, meaning kicked-up pub grub and a great beer list, with 225 bottles and 23 drafts.
The guys from JW Chicago construction (who also built Del Toro, Sepia, Lava Lounge and Piccolo) are behind the interior, and have plans to go reclaimed and salvaged as much as possible, even using parts of the old pool hall's hardwood floors for the bar top. SmallBar the Third will also have a private party room for about 30 and a patio for around 20, which should come in handy if it opens in time for its target date of June.
