Lula Cafe reconcepts into an Irish pub
Well, kinda. Tonight and tonight only, the beloved Logan Square restaurant will honor its annual Halloween tradition and shape-shift into a completely different restaurant. Last year it was Lula's Olive Garden (complete with all-you-can-eat breadsticks and servers rocking obnoxious ties with stiff white shirts) and this year it's O'Lulahan's, an Irish-ish pub decked out in head-to-toe green bric-a-brac and a few plastic ferns for that extra touch of authenticity.
Owner Jason Hammel rented a deep fryer for the occasion, just so the kitchen can turn out fish and chips, which are joined on tonight's menu by corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie, Irish breakfast, bangers and mash, chocolate-Guinness steamed pudding and more. My favorite menu item has to be the "Irish seven-course meal"—a half-dozen oysters with a pint of Guinness.
