Schweddy Balls Float at Uncle Fatty's
Schweddy Balls ice cream from Ben & Jerry's recently hit convenience store shelves, and already Lakeview bar Uncle Fatty's Rum Resort has adapted the absurdly conceived flavor for alcoholic purposes. The Schweddy Balls Float debuted last week and features two scoops of Schweddy Balls (vanilla ice cream with rum and malt balls) combined with Stoli Vanil vodka, Kahlua and Bailey's Irish Cream. The float is now available to the public, to the delight of all patrons who like ice cream, drinking and classic SNL sketches. Bar manager Brandon Aquino says Uncle Fatty's has already received many calls from Chicagoans wondering if the establishment is really "serious" about offering the new drink. We can assure you, this is for real.
The float tastes like a thick White Russian (famously the Dude's drink in The Big Lebowski, though he never luxuriated in gourmet ice creams), and indeed features both vodka and Kahlua. The addition of Bailey's Irish Cream, however, pushes the drink into extra creamy territory. The necessary proliferation of ice cubes, however, makes the float quite dense. The rum and malt balls already make slurping the float through a straw a challenge—Uncle Fatty's may look into investing in McFlurry-esque large shake straws. The float isn't light on the alcohol—the bartender didn't stiff me on the vodka, the taste of which reminded me throughout the drink that I was at a bar and not an ice cream parlor—so the Schweddy Balls Float is a smooth but clearly adult-oriented dessert.
