New bar from the Cleo's folks: Marble

Posted in Consume blog by David Tamarkin on Sep 24, 2010 at 3:31pm

This just in from West Armitage Avenue: Joe Sabath and Mike Dyra, the duo that opened Cleo's and, um, Cleo's, have sold those bars to focus on a new one: Marble.

"I just wanted to do something new and exciting," says Sabath. "Go to a new neighborhood. Start over again, basically."

Sabath and Dyra are hoping not to have Marble compared with their previous venues. But that may be hard, as there are plenty of similarities. Like at Cleo's, Marble is all about cheap food and good beer. Menu items, from a flattop-grilled burger to cheese curds, top out at around $5. And the beer list boasts 50 by the bottle and 12 on tap. Finally, just like at Cleo's, Marble has a huge outdoor patio that seats 91.

But what Marble has that Cleo's doesn't is...marbles. A childhood obsession of Sabath's, they're incorporated into the room via the bar, light fixtures and wall murals. "It's something you have to come see to really get a feel for it," Sabath says. You can do just that tomorrow night at the bar's Grand Opening, from 7–9pm.

Marble (3281 W Armitage Ave, 773-252-9652) is open now.
