$1 beer: Chi-Town Tap

Posted in Consume blog by TOC Staff on Mar 1, 2010 at 1:33pm

Chicago might not be the only city where one can still get a beer for a buck (or less than two), but the sheer number of cheap brew options we enjoy is astounding. We continue our series, $1 Beer, to celebrate the joy of getting a mug for less than two dollars.

Chi-Town Tap is one of the few places which offers beer specials on a prime weekend night: Going in on a Friday gets you $1 Bud Light bottles.

When we arrived, every stool at the bar was occupied, making it hard to get the bartender’s attention. But once we caught his eye, it was just a few moments more before beers were in our hands.

During peak hours, the main bar room is loud, blaring with the loud music being chosen by drunken patrons on a jukebox. The back room offers some respite—we slid comfortably into a booth, which came complete with a personal flat-screen TV on the wall.

If the TV doesn't hold your interest, there’s a pool table and electronic games in the back, too.

The bar quieted down after 10pm as the crowd thinned out. If you come past 11pm, they're likely to have run out of Bud Light bottles and will serve you from the tap for the same reasonable price. It’s not a bad place to start out a boozy Friday night, especially with so many other Lincoln Park bars close by.—Christina Hill
