To walk by a packed house at Ricobene on a Friday night into the mostly empty dining room here says much about the current climate in Bridgeport: Apparently folks would rather get a breaded steak sandwich for five bucks than sit down to a fancy meal. The owners of both are one and the same, and while they’re showing ambition with this upscale option, the place is tailor-made for a Gordon Ramsay intervention. Much of the massive menu is boring even to read (chicken breast four ways, roasted potatoes with every entrée), servers don’t have a clue what they’re selling and the concept seems to be “it might be generic Ital-American, but the portions are huge!” Save the dough and stick to the famed sandwich next door.
