[Note: Lillie's Q is temporarily closed due to fire damage.] We have to admit we were skeptical that a stylish spot in Wicker Park could deliver memorable barbecue, but we ate our words with bite after bite of impressively smoky, truly tender, low-and-slow meats. Ease into the night with a moonshine-spiked Arnold Palmer or a pick from the impressive beer list and apps like fried pickles, boiled peanuts and pimento cheese. Stellar Southern classics continue with a shellfish and andouille–packed low-country boil and shrimp over insanely creamy grits, but it’s the pink-tinged pulled pork and thick slices of smoked tri-tip that prove chef-owner Charlie McKenna is every bit deserving of that Memphis in May trophy behind the bar.

My family went there for an early 6pm dinner on a Tuesday evening last week. We were shocked to see an automatic gratuity added to our bill for a party of only five. More troubling is the amount of the seemingly mandatory random tip calculation was not defined anywhere on our check. I asked the manager how this was calculated and was told "its an automatic 20% tip". Aside from the fact that the restaurant industry suggests 20% for "exceptional service" there was also a line item for "additional gratuity". Whats even more comical is that the tip calculation was 19% and the restaurant had no clue. Last trip for us. Let the buyer beware. Caveat emptor!
