It's not quite going into battle, but surviving the festival season stylishly is an art.

You know that guy/girl who always looks cool, collected and up-to-the-minute styled at the music fest? Not sticky, sweaty, malnourished and stretching out last year's look? We know that type of festivalgoer, and we want to help you join 'em in the fest-going hall of fame. With a combination of the right technology, the right simple items of clothing and the act of reading the weather report, you should be sitting pretty in a field with a nice loud band some part of this summer and still look civilized on the way home or out to the next show. Here are some ideas.

Women can pull off a bohemian festival-going look with sun-protecting large straw hat, cut-offs and hippyish shirt, with the option of jumping into some good tough mud boots if the weather turns. Guys can work in the still au courant heritage/preppy look with more of a going camping edge for festivals (which, in some parts of the world are just as much about actual camping than the music). Short rubber galoshes aren't a bad idea, but some sturdy sneakers aren't a bad look either if rain isn't in the offing. If it's just blazing, go minimal with the back-in-style espadrilles. A lighter jean, like these organic Industry of All Nations organic selvedge jeans will be more comfy in the heat but also suit you in the club later that night.

Gearwise, it's all the basics you should know by now: ear plugs, travel sunblock, sunglasses, (60 sunglasses here) something to carry water in, a light backpack, a blanket. We also suggest you grab a bunch of those wetnaps you've been hoarding every time you hit the BBQ and bring 'em along. You'll need 'em.

Will you look fresh and stylish at 8pm after a day of stage diving? That's unlikely, but you can't say we didn't try to help.
