The HK 2011 Fashion Challenge, held on July 26, 2011 at Room 1520 featured ten up-and-coming designers in a design competition, emceed by Lara Miller and Marcus Riley, and judged by Billy Dec and members of Chicago’s fashion community. Didn't get an invite? Me, either.
Designers got one Maisha Collective scarf (see below for explanation) and had two weeks to design an original women’s look with it. It wasn't just a see-and-be-seen event with good bites and drinks, the soiree celebrated refugee girls and young women in Nairobi, highlighting their work in the Maisha Collective, Heshima Kenya’s income-generating project in which they produce the unique, hand-dyed scarves.
