Last-minute shopping events
Fresh from our Shopping inbox, we just got word of four Shopping & Style events happening this week/weekend that are worth checking out:
Scandinavian Design auction at Wright
No, we're not talking about IKEA furniture here. The 231 items featured at this sale include high-end modern designs from the best of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. For example, the Egg chair and ottoman by Arne Jacobsen (pictured above) could go for as much as $15,000. Translation: Bring all your credit cards. Thu 17 at noon. 1440 W Hubbard St.
Marimekko DIY event
Can't afford to part with thousands of dollars for your home decor needs? This event at Crate and Barrel is free. Learn all about making Marimekko tablecloths, runners, placemats and more. Crate and Barrel experts will show you how to make a fun summer table setting—Marimekko is all about bright and colorful designs—for your upcoming parties and picnics. Plus, you'll get a free single-cut of Marimekko Unikko flower fabric. R.S.V.P. by calling 312-578-9800. Thu 17, 2–4pm. 850 W North Ave.
Avoiding downtown because of NATO this weekend? Men's shop Haberdash is hoping you'll visit River North because of NATO. Of course, the shop thinks of NATO as "Now A Third Off." From Friday through Monday, the shop is offering one third off most full-priced items in the shop, as well as in neighboring Haberdash EDC. Alden and apothecary products are excluded from the sale, though. Fri 18–Mon 21. 607 N State St; 611 N State St.
Sebastien Grey fashion show Not all custom suits look the same, and this local custom men's brand will prove that point with a Friday night fashion show at Underground. Look for the latest spring/summer styles, which will include lighter fabrics, bold colors, and fun patterns. Word is that a lot of the inspiration for the collection comes from the world's most exclusive yacht clubs—so expect a preppy, country club vibe here. The finale includes a performance by the Electric Funketeers. R.S.V.P. with an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Fri 18, 9pm. 56 W Illinois St.
