Wool sweaters Rather than the preppy and polished looks of the past, muted wool sweaters paired with soft, long skirts dominate this season. The grunge/ countryside-chic look is easily recreatable with a neutral colored sweater that will still be functional once you tire of pairing it with the floral skirts.Humanoid mohair sweater, $378, at p.45

Menswear shoes The beauty of black and white menswear flats is that they will go with any outfit you want. A floral sundress, a tailored suit, print-on-print ensemble or basic jeans and T-shirt-anything. These patent leather options from Akira are perfect because they are easy to get into and the patent leather makes them a tad dressier than regular oxfords. Although Akira usually carries pretty campy shoes, these pair toe the line of funky/tasteful for those that air on the conservative side.Jeffrey Campbell oxfords, $139.99, at Akira.

Plaid There are still a few ways to make the annual plaid trend fresh. A plaid dress is a fancier take on the ubiquitous button-up shirts. Pair the dress with a chunky necklace and some booties or belt the waist for more definition. This vintage wool option from Tusk is a great investment, as once it becomes winter, you can easily throw on a pair of skinny jeans or leather pants underneath. Vintage plaid dress, $70, at Tusk.

Camel coats With the look and feel of a teddy bear, textured coats make the childhood comfort toy fashionable. This trend functions the same as any other peacoat and the neutral color is multi-seasonal if youre still feeling nostalgic come spring.La FeMaraboute coat, $299, at Florodora.

Leopard print By far the most fun of the trends, leopard coats are the easiest way to add flair with minimal effort. Instead of buying a neutral coat that mutes the outfit underneath, invest in a coat with a wild print that stands out even when the rest of our outfit isnt visible. These options from US #1 are hybrids of warmth and style.Leopard coats, average $350, at US #1.
