5 best Fashion Focus 2013 events in October
New York Fashion Week is over. Paris Fashion Week recently ended. So now it's time for Chicago's stylish set to take center stage. Fashion Focus is back and kicks off a week's worth of fashion shows and other designer events starting on October 15. Last year, we reported that the annual event's future seemed bleak, so I'm glad the event is not only back but is offering some new and creative programming. Here are our picks for the five must-attend events. You can find the complete list of Fashion Focus events on the official website.
Inspiration: Designer and Muse
The City of Chicago and Michigan Avenue magazine host this kick-off event, which features a local designer creating a look for a Chicagoan muse. Pairings include Maria Pinto with Jeanne Gang and Azeeza Khan with Alpana Singh. The event is private, but you can get a limited number of tickets via the Fashion Focus Chicago twitter feed (@FashionFocus). Location TBA. October 15 at 6pm.
Maison De LaCour Fashion Presentation
Instead of being grouped into an evening runway show with a bunch of other designers, constant stand-out Julius LaCour is showcasing his latest looks in a lunchtime solo show. Millennium Park Chase Promenade North. October 16 at noon.
Fashion Focus: Urban Shapeshifter
Menswear sometimes feels like a second thought at Fashion Focus shows...but that's not the case this year. This runway show features clothes just for the fellas by local designers such as J. Cheikh, Michelle Tan and Jack Cave. Plus local boutique Gallery Aesthete is ramping up big name offerings with looks by Comme de Garcons and more. Millennium Park Chase Promenade North. October 17, 7:30pm.
The Art of Fashion Runway Show
Okay, so this event isn't new. But it's become the pinnacle show of Fashion Focus, so it's worth mentioning. Produced by stylechicago.com, this runway show features spring 2014 looks by established designers such as Maria Pinto, Calvin Tran, Borris Powell and more. A VIP reception precedes the evening show. Tickets ($35–$115) are on sale here. Millennium Park Chase Promenade North. October 18, 7:30pm; VIP reception is at 6pm.
It's seriously a good year for guys interested in style. This Minnesota-based mobile menswear market returns to Chicago as part of Fashion Focus week. The pop-up market features products (think men's clothing, shoes, paper goods, grooming supplies and more) manufactured in the U.S. Millennium park Chase Promenade South. October 19, 10am–6pm.
