His Stuff set to close this weekend—but don't freak out yet
“His Stuff is closing?!?! NOOOOO!!!!!”
That’s the IM I just got from TOC senior editor Novid Parsi. The owners of the men’s store (with locations in Andersonville and Lakeview) sent out an e-mail this afternoon saying that after almost nine years in business they are, in fact, closing the doors at both locations. Of course when a store closes, it has one last big sale. Head to the shop this weekend (Friday 11–Sunday 13) and find 40% off new merchandise as well as an additional 40% off sale items. Doors open at 11am each day.
“OMG, that's where I get my nice things. Now what am I gonna do?”
Good question, Novid. His Stuff will definitely leave a void in Andersonville, and especially Lakeview, where other local men’s clothing shops such as Universal Gear and CRAM have also closed.
But there are still great stores for dapper guys in this city. Here are a couple of options:
Apartment No.9 It’s virtually impossible to look bad after shopping here, so stylish and timeless are the clothes. Staff specializes in helping men who need fashion guidance. The back room generally has great discounts on fashion from the likes of Rogan and Paul Smith.
Haberdash Lawyer-turned-shop-owner Adam Beltzman opened up this one-stop-men’s shop (the selection runs the gamut from jeans to suits) in Old Town in 2005 (a second location recently opened in River North). Dress in a fashionable shirt by Rag & Bone or Gitman Vintage or plaid shorts by Tailor Vintage, or find a pair of perfect-for-summer boat shoes.
Akira Yes, this Chicago chain seems to be everywhere—including Andersonville, where it recently set up shop at 5228 N Clark Street. This outpost carries men’s and women’s apparel, and even though I haven’t checked it out yet, I’m sure you can some dressy options for guys. Hopefully, this will help fill the vacancy left by His Stuff and help pave the way for more clothing shops to enter the ‘hood.
