Damask wallpaper on the cheap | Personal shopper
We found more affordable options of the popular pattern.
I want to hang wallpaper in my new apartment, and I’m leaning toward a damask pattern. But do any affordable options exist out there? The ones I like are $100-plus per roll.—Peter G., Uptown
We empathize with you on this one—the world of wallpaper can be overwhelming. But you made the decision process easier on yourself by choosing a specific wallpaper style. Martha Stewart, bless her heart, makes a pretty and affordable version of damask as part of her Martha Stewart Living collection that retails for $26 per double roll. It’s available at Home Depot (locations citywide). It’s also paintable, so you can customize the color to your home. And, unraveling at around 56 square feet of paper, it gives you plenty to cover an accent wall in your apartment. Depending on your DIY skill level, accent walls just might be your best bet when dealing with this type of wallpaper—certain patterns can be tricky to match up without the help of an expert. This is especially true when working with higher-grade paper. JC Licht (locations citywide) offers a nice selection of quality prints that begin at $43 per double roll. Visiting local storefronts like this one might be preferable to online shopping when hunting for damask, as most prints include a textural element as well. Retail showroom Urban Source (1429 W Chicago Ave, 312-455-0505) keeps it just under $100 with its Tempaper prints, which start at approximately $95 per roll. Not sure what pattern will go best with your decor? The company also offers fee-based design consultations that will help you pick the perfect print to match that chair or rug.
