Spring fragrances

Time Out Chicago’s food critics get a whiff of four spring scents.

The press release says
Hermès’ fourth garden series fragrance is Un Jardin Sur le Toit, a bright scent merging notes of apple, pear, rose, green grass, basil, magnolia and compost. Suitable for ladies and gents. $125 at Hermes (25 E Oak St, 312-787-8175).

David Tamarkin says
First, I got lime, lots of lime. Then came the grass—freshly cut grass you’d find on a golf course. I detect a little sweetness in here, too. It smells like a country club in the best possible way.

Julia Kramer says
There’s something really fresh and lovely about this perfume. I smell ocean water, and I get a lot of citrus. The brightness of the smell reminds me of the effervescence of smelling the bubbles on top of a freshly poured Diet Coke. Other people do that…right?
