City Lit Books
There are food deserts all over the city. Until recently, Logan Square was a book desert. Sure, there was a used book store, and one that specializes in sci-fi fantasy, both of which have opened since 2010, but City Lit Books owner Teresa Kirschbraun had faith that Logan Square residents wanted a general-interest book store, too. The simple storefront, which opened in September, comes complete with kids’ and Spanish-language sections, and even a fireplace for curling up in winter. Three cheers for pioneers. 2523 N Kedzie Blvd (773-235-2523).—Jessica Herman
