Hair throb Between the black-on-black striped, painted walls in the main room, cherub wallpaper in the washroom and chandelier at the entrance, Heather Bocek has good reason to describe her Lakeview “hair house” as a “Marie Antoinette [meets] Alice in Wonderland salon of sorts.” With the help of seven stylists (all formerly employed at Milios Hair Salon) and 11 years in the business under her belt, Bocek offers moderately priced cuts ($45 for women, $35 for men), coloring ($60–$100) and waxing ($12–$40) and plans to eventually supplement the menu of services with hair extensions and makeup application. 3535 N Lincoln Ave between Hermitage and Ravenswood Aves (773-525-4344, blackheartshairhouse.com).
