5 spa treatments to nurse your hangover

Oh, your aching head. And body. And dignity. These spa treatments can help with the first two.

Thanks to raucous New Year’s Eve parties (or just drinking a bottle of Jim Beam by yourself at home), many of us will be entering 2014 with a holiday-size hangover. But instead of clinging to the couch or praying to the porcelain gods, nurse your hangover in a more dignified way…at a Chicago spa. Book one of these five treatments, and you’ll start 2014 feeling totally refreshed—no matter how much you had to drink the night before.

Monticelli Mud Therapy at Fuga Salon + Spa
Why it’ll help your hangover
This wrap allows your body to absorb the mineral-rich Monticelli-imported mud, which is supposed to help your body get rid of toxins. Even better, while you’re wrapped cocoonlike in insulating Mylar, you’ll enjoy a massage on your temples and scalp. That should help your headache. 75 minutes, $135.

Ionic Body Cleanse Detox Treatment at Blo Salon & Spa
Why it’ll help your hangover
You soak your feet in a warm footbath connected to a water-ionizing machine, which is also attached to one of your wrists. The negatively charged ions the machine emits are then released into the water and enter your body through your feet, thus enabling your cells to release accumulated toxins such as oils, acids and heavy metals. A half-hour soak purges six month’s worth of toxins, which surely includes some of the damage from a night at the bar. 30 minutes, $45; 60 minutes, $85.

Moor Therapeutic Detoxifying Pedicure at The Spa at Trump
Why it’ll help your hangover
Your feet are full of pressure points that relate to the rest of your body, including your liver and your head. This treatment features a foot massage, as well as a detoxifying Moor mud bath and exfoliating mud wrap that purifies the body and rebalances energy. You’ll be ready for another night of dancing and bar hopping in no time. 90 minutes, $125.

Intravenous Hydration at IVme
Why it’ll help your hangover
Set aside your fear of needles at this spa-meets-ER. IVs are the simplest form of hydration, so people come to this white couch–clad clinic if they’re suffering from a cold or flu, jet lag and, of course, a hangover. After a nurse takes your blood pressure, you’ll be hooked up to an IV administering a saline solution which contains electrolytes and minerals, supplemented with vitamin B and Zofran, a common antinausea med. Within 20 minutes you’ll start feeling normal again. 20 minutes, $119.

Chuan Jet Lag Revival at Chuan Spa
Why it’ll help your hangover
One of the signature services at this posh spa within the Langham Hotel is the Chuan Jet Lag Revival. The two-hour treatment features a salt scrub, the Chuan Harmony Massage and a foot massage. Feeling jet lagged is pretty similar to a hangover, right? And if you’re still feeling the effects of last night, you can hang out in one of the saunas (one lined with Himalayan salt stone, another infused with herbs). Two hours, $325.
