Party your face off?
Step away from the greasy brunch and treat that hangover with a pampering
A season filled with champagne toasts and late-night revelry is bound to result in a hangover or two. Luckily, there are spa treatments designed with your drank-too-much symptoms in mind.
$110 for 60 minutes at Luxe, 2109 W Belmont Ave (773-665-2049)
The Rx: Skin-care specialists trained in manual lymphatic drainage, a common postsurgery practice, trigger specific points on the head, feet and hands to release toxins and open the sinuses. Extractions aren’t included—unless your hangover can handle it.
The relief factor: The lounge’s wood-burning fireplace and dim lighting are easy on sensitive eyes. The highlight is the stone therapy: Hot rocks and cold stones are placed all over the face to increase blood circulation. We left with rosy, flushed cheeks—a nice change from the pale, drained face we had in the morning.
$215 for 60 minutes at Bliss Spa, 644 N Lake Shore Dr (312-201-9545)
The Rx: Prepare to be slathered in essential oils, wrapped in a Mylar sheet and heated blanket, and treated to an acupressure facial massage. The technician applies an oxygen mask that sits while she does an intense foot massage.
The relief factor: The heated body wrap had us sweating out last night’s toxins (and sans cardio, to boot). We almost fell asleep during the 15-minute foot massage as the oxygen mask settled. We were sent on our way with a bottle of antioxidant-rich green tea in our flavor of choice (it’s included in the price) to replenish our system with nutrients and put us back on a healthy track.
The After Hours
$110 for 60 minutes at Urban Spa Chic, 1401 W Hubbard St (312-492-8050)
The Rx: This trio package includes a customized 30-minute massage (our therapist went beyond the time limit—hooray!), pedicure (not really necessary for soothing a hangover, but ain’t no harm in neat feet) and lengthy treatment for the area around the eyes.
The relief factor: The massage worked out all the kinks from a bad night’s sleep. But the real highlight was the “bye-bye bags” eye treatment. Copper-based products helped reduce fluid retention, eliminating our bloodshot eyes and the swollen puffiness around them.
