Sports & Rec: But wait, there's more
20th Annual Boulevard Lakefront Tour
The explosion of bikes on the streets this summer means most of you should be able to tackle the Lance Armstrong–like 62-mile journey of this annual favorite. If you’re not quite up to that challenge, you can still take part in the 15- or 35-mile rides, party with your fellow spoke folks and test your Chicago know-how with the (new for this year) scavenger hunt. Meet at Midway Plaisance, 59th St and Woodlawn Ave (312-427-4907, boulevardtour.org). Sept 7 at 7am.
UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote
Thanks to a recent change in Illinois legislation that gives the Illinois Athletic Commission the responsibility of sanctioning mixed martial-arts fights in the state, you might see more of these MMA bloodbaths coming to the area (we’ll let you decide if that’s a good thing). For their first visit to Chicago, the Ultimate Fighting Champions have selected Anderson “the Spider” Silva and Patrick “the Predator” Cote to beat the piss out of each other for our entertainment. Allstate Arena, 6920 Mannheim Rd, Rosemont (312-559-1212, ticketmaster.com). Oct 25 at 6:45pm.
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Chicago Bulls
We’ll find out soon enough if the Bulls’ No. 1 overall draft pick, Derrick Rose, can replicate his prep success (he led Simeon to back-to-back state titles) when the Bulls open up their regular-season campaign against the Milwaukee Bucks. In addition to catching Rose and first-year head coach Vinny Del Nego’s debut, Bulls fans will get a chance to shower former Bulls coach Scott Skiles with, well, something short of adoration as he leads the Bucks into the United Center. 1901 W Madison St (312-455-4000, bulls.com). Oct 28 at 7:30pm.
