Countdown to Boston: Rain, rain, rain
Julie Hammer, TOCs Marketing Director and a three-time Chicago Marathon finisher, will be running her first Boston Marathon on April 19.
Running in the rain is...refreshing...and has prepared me for anything in Boston.
So, this past weekend proved to hold yet another soggy Saturday morning run for me. This time only 13 miles and luckily warm(er) rain and light drizzleI can handle that. It was actually quite nice to have some cooling mist while working really hard.
I feel that when its time to line up for Boston, Ill be prepared for anything: rain, sleet, snow, wind, sun. Training for a spring marathon in Chicago prepares you for just thatversatility and toughness. With less than two weeks to go until race day, the countdown begins and I really cant believe its here.
Im proud of myself for hanging in and training through a tough winter with such an elite group of runners (there were points in my training where I just didnt think I was going to make it) so when the last mile of a run starts hurting a bit, I think of how much I fought to train for this marathon in the first place and I fight back the pain to get to the finish.
I hope that drive will get me to the finish in Boston with pride and of course, an awesome time. (Hey, Im a runner....I live by finish time!)
