Unseen City: Designs for a Future Chicago
Designers insert visionary but technically feasible architectural projects into the CAF's Chicago Model City. These projects—designed by architecture students from IIT, UIC and Archeworks—tackle perennial environmental and social issues (like water pollution, carbon emissions, suburban relocation and food deserts) and present novel ways in which design solutions can enhance city living.
Chicago Architecture Foundation, 224 S Michigan Ave (312) 922-3432. Sat/Sun 9am-4:30pm. Free.

Bear Grylls open casting call
The former Man vs. Wild host is on the hunt for duos to participate in Get Out Alive, a new adventure competition for NBC. Putting your wilderness survival skills to the test: definitely yes. Drinking your own urine: probably no.
XSport Fitness South Loop, 819 S State St (312)-294-0500. Sat 10am-4pm. Free.

Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market
More than 150 do-it-yourself crafters assemble in Bucktown. Our eyes are glued on Circa Ceramics-Chicago flag soup bowls, Soaphappy-bath bars and stationery from 16 Sparrows & Letters Writers Alliances.
1419 W Blackhawk St (312)-742-7559. Sat/Sun 11am-6pm. Free.

ZooLights
How do you heighten the experience of a display beaming with 2 million glowing lights? Add 3-D special effects and dole out lenses to the first 1,000 nightly visitors. Though the light show effortlessly holds its own, there's live ice carving, craft making, a train ride, a carousel, hot cocoa and plenty more amusements.
Lincoln Park Zoo, 2001 N Clark St (312) 742-2000. Sat/Sun 5pm-9pm. Free.

Planet Earth at Late Bar
With a track record stretching back to 1994, Dave Roberts's Planet Earth night is a Chicago staple. His new wave selections have taken him from Club Foot to Exit to Neo. It's now found a permanent home here. DJ Tarsis Lopez, host of the American Classix podcast, adds his take on rare new wave to the mix the first Saturday of the month.
Late Bar, 3534 W Belmont Ave (773) 267-5283. Sat 10pm. Free.
