Crazy legs These cats have got the funk. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, skaters groove JB-style (as in James Brown) at The Rink (1122 E 87th St, 773-221-3290), showing off the kickin’ fancy footwork seen in Roll Bounce. “It’s like dancing on skates,” says Quianna Regan, 19, at the Sunday-night 18-and-older skate, that featured DJ DMC spinning soul and funk. “You practice moves together with your friends, and then you skate together, so you better have everything right.” Rink owner Nate Simpson, who opened the South Side space in 1975, says sessions are divided by age and skate styles, which include gospel and R&B. “This is good for the cardio, and there’s no smoking or drinking,” Simpson says. Regan offers this piece of advice: “You usually don’t see people in rental skates—they’re too heavy.” For more info, visit www.therinkchicago.com.—Leah Pietrusiak
