I've been out of work for a long time

Chicagoan Seth Zurer turned to bacon for comfort during his long unemployment.

Seth Zurer, 32, Albany Park
Six months ago, after the staff size was halved and remaining workers were reduced to part-time at the River North boutique travel agency where Zurer managed travel services, he decided to leave.
Biggest challenge “One challenge has been psychological: fear. Approximately one week after I decided to leave my job, it was confirmed that my wife was pregnant with my first child.”
Best piece of advice “What’s worked the best for me is to follow any thread that interests me. That’s made me more satisfied with my day-to-day life than ever before. I’ve been putting together a bacon festival, called Baconfest Chicago, being held in Logan Square’s Stan Mansion on October 25. I needed something specific that I was really fascinated by to understand what networking was for. I used to look down on networking and thought it was useless, but now it’s what I do all day every day, and I love it.”
