Celebrate Clark Street
Rogers Park celebrates diversity with live world music, food, art and jewelry. Former HotHouse manager David Chavez always creates a stellar lineup of global sounds.
Great Urban Race
Numero uno on the waiver release for this urban adventure states that you might be involved in "potentially hazardous activity." Should that scare you? Only if you think you'll end up outwitted by this "scavenger hunt, road race and wandering party." Past hurdles have included sketching, kite flying and riddles. First place gets you a spot at the nationals (in Vegas, baby, for a chance at $10,000) and $300.
Wicker Park Fest
Beginning at the diagonal intersection known as the Crotch, Wicker Park Fest stretches along Milwaukee Avenue. Hipster-friendly acts include Wild Flag, Wavves, Blitzen Trapper, Joe Pug and Flosstradamus.
Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy
The Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce brings you this tenth annual Chinatown favorite. More than 10,000 people are expected to line up for a view of the beautifully decorated dragon boats, each crewed by 20 members (18 paddlers, a drummer and a flag catcher). Ethnic food and crafts, and musical and dance performances round out the fun. Proceeds benefit local reading programs.
Fire vs. Manchester United
The Chicago Fire faces off against Manchester United Football Club in what's sure to be a popular friendly at Soldier Field.
