Saturday's best bets: Debo Band with Fendika, comedian-rapper Reggie Watts
MUSIC - Debo Band with Fendika
Afro-groove outfit Debo comprises musicians from Ethiopia and Boston and makes a gloriously unhinged, rambunctious sound—traditional, shrill singing with fat tuba basslines, handclaps and funksome beats. Dance troupe Fendika joins in the fun and helps keep bodies shaking at this SummerDance showcase. Grant Park, Spirit of Music Garden; 6pm–9:30pm; FREE!
Art & Design - "Dominion"
A favorite artist-run gallery hosts one of its rare shows, which features paintings, an installation and other works by local artists Amy Babinec Jessica Taylor Caponigro and Neal Vandenbergh. Eel Space (1906 S Throop St, no. 2F; 312-550-6360, eelspace.wordpress.com). 6–9pm. FREE.
COMEDY/MUSIC - Reggie Watts
Expect your mind to be blown by the energetic, category-defying beat-boxing-music-comedy-rap of Watts, one of the most interesting and talented performers in New York’s alt scene. Mayne Stage; 8pm, 10:30pm; $20–$27.
DANCE/DRINK UP - Cabaret Havana
The tropical bustle of 1940s Havana inspires this new variety night, featuring "Latin grooves, live music, dance, comedy and burlesque." Grab a second or third mojito afterward and stick around for salsa dance lessons and an open-floor dance party. Further details are online at shajaradance.com. 3160 (3160 N Clark St, 773-327-5969, chicago3160.com). 9pm; FREE.
