Rent Oprah's Lake Shore Drive pad; the rent's kinda steep, but it has a wine room.
The Nooner: Chicago news and beyond.
Today's news is about who not to punch.
Oprah Winfrey’s apartment is for rent
First, the number you’re wondering about: $15,000 a month is the rent on this place. So, you can cancel the moving van. And that’s for a place that Oprah never actually lived in. She bought it for $5.6 million in 2006, tried once to sell it, and has just been hanging onto it ever since, like an old cell phone. The 1913 Beaux Arts mansion sits at 199 E Lake Shore Drive and features 10-foot ceilings and a wine room.
Let me guess: You were drunk
Here’s a new take on biting the hand that feeds you: Punching the face that heals you. An Alsip man has been charged with aggravated battery after repeatedly punching the paramedic who was attending to him in an ambulance. At the time of the assault, the man was on his way to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash; his car hit a light pole.
There’s an app for…Thanksgiving?
Mashable’s got a list of their top nine Thanksgiving apps. It’s got everything from the very practical (a “Thanksgiving coach” that will talk you through roasting a turkey) to the frivolous (a wack-a-turkey game). Of the apps listed, I’d bet that ESPNScoreCenter will be used the most, by family members who’d rather be watching the Packers game than listening to Aunt Linda talk about her new macrobiotic diet.
Rahm starts doing the rounds for Obama
Now that his budget is passed, mayor Rahm Emanuel has some free time to stump for his old boss, Barack Obama. His first foray, ironically, has him insisting “"we just can't cut our way to prosperity." Quite a statement from someone who just balanced Chicago’s budget by shutting down police stations and mental-health facilities. I actually have a lot of respect for Rahm’s willingness to make tough choices and burn gobs of political capital in order to balance the city budget, but that doesn’t mean the irony of his words here are lost on me.
Please stop breeding
Almost as preordained as Kim Kardashian’s divorce: A new Jersey Couple lost custody of their fourth child just 17 hours after his birth. The newborn’s name is basically normal, Hons Campbell, but the family has been in the news previously because of the names of their first three children: Adolf Hitler Campbell, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Himler Jeannie Campbell. Those first three have been in foster care since 2009—and not, according to New Jersey’s child protection agency, because of their offensive names.
