This week in Around Town | meals, mummies and African Americans in Chicago
Here are the latest goings-on from the Around Town section of Time Out Chicago magazine:
- Kudos for doing the right thing budget-wise by bringing your lunch. We suggest treating yourself, and not to a burrito or submarine sammie. Have a decent sit-down meal. For the next seven days, more than 200 local restaurants are offering $22 prix-fixe lunch and $33 dinner values.
- Mo' mummies, mo' mummies, mo mummies. Well, there's 20 to be exact, on display in The Field Museum exhibit "Opening the Vaults: Mummies." Discover the CT-scan preservation techniques and what they revealed about the 900–5,500-year-old mummies.
- Cap off Black History Month with author Lowell Thompson's book, African Americans in Chicago. Marvel at the gorgeous black-and-white photos of yore and ponder his views on mainstream media. Hear more from Thompson during his book signing and discussion at the Harold Washington Library on February 28 at 6pm.
