Despite a fantastic public transportation system, plenty of Chicagoans insist on driving. Why would Windy City residents battle for road space with crazy cab drivers, frustrating traffic and endless construction? Because we love our cars.
But, what is even better than our cars? Someone else's custom-designed, tricked out, perfectly crafted hotrod. This is why more than 100,000 people flocked to the Donald Stephens Convention Center this weekend for the O’Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels.
Sanctioned by the International Show Car Association (ISCA), more than 300 competitive car, bike and truck classes—from sport compacts and lowriders to hotrods—were on display throughout the weekend. Vehicles are professionally judged based on ISCA rules and one car is awarded the Legend Cup, sponsored by CleanTools, which includes a prize of $5,000. This prestigious award is presented to an outstanding first-time-shown vehicle, which best represents a combination of style, quality and craftsmanship.
In its 50th year, the show drew guest spots from celebrities such as WWE superstar Rey Mysterio and provided a platform for automobile enthusiasts to mingle with industry professionals and vendors.
