Affordable furniture shops in Chicago
As customers and friends of Roy's Furniture, we were saddened by the massive fire that overtook the north side furniture store at the beginning of the week. In the meantime, since many of you were probably counting on the shop's reasonably priced sofas and dining room sets, we've rounded up a few great alternatives for outfitting your home on a budget.
For starters, we ran this piece in our Cheap Issue, recommending Fort Pitt and Affordable Portables along with a few home accessories stores. More recently, we took a trip to the ReBuilding Exchange, a sprawling warehouse space that sells reclaimed building material as well as a custom furniture line, RX Made (see image above), made in-house with salvaged wood. The prices are right, and you even have the opportunity to make your own furniture at workshops like a one-day build-your-own bench class. Not to mention the number of vintage shops and upcoming vintage furniture sales: Stop by the Ravenswood Antique Mart sale, where items from the '30s to the '70s are marked between 20–50% off. And write a note in your calendar for the return of the Vintage Bazaar, now a monthly event featuring 150 vendors, which comes to the Aragon Ballroom from noon–5pm on Sun 10.
