This past weekend, Chicago native and six-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb hosted the inaugural Donovan McNabb’s All-star Celebrity Softball Game at Livingston Field on the city's West Side. Among his cabal of Chi-lebrities in attendance were Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, WNBA Chicago Sky forward Swin Cash, L.A. Clipper small forward Bobby Simmons, former Chicago Bear Jerry Azumah, NFL free agent Napoleon Harris (He won the 2012 Democratic primary for Illinois Senate District 15), singer-songwriter Ben One, Day 26 bandmate Will Taylor, DJ Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, hip-hop artist/activist Che “Rhymefest” Smith and comedian Deon Cole. In between innings, turntablist Mark Fullaflava entertained onlookers with a mix of hip-hop, 90's R & B and house music.
Take a peek at the photos of smiling young faces, adoring fans and celeb do-gooders. The outing was wholesome goodness that you can’t beat with a bat (Yes, I went there). Though the game was free for spectators, preferred seating tickets went for $20 each. Proceeds and donations benefit the Donovan McNabb Fund, a nonprofit organization that promotes diabetes awareness and prevention.
