Album of the week: Mayer Hawthorne's Where Does This Door Go
We've long been fans of neo-soul crooner Mayer Hawthorne. We profiled the DJ-turned-singer in 2009. The Detroit native told us his career as the heir to Daryl Hall began as a lark. We followed Hawthorne to Lollapalooza, some weird Chipolte festival and a Bruno Mars opening slot. He opens for a big pop act again on Tuesday, July 23, when he stops by Ravinia with OneRepublic. But don't hold that against him. His new blue-eyed funk album, Where Does This Door Go, is a charmer and it's our album of the week. Read the review and stream the record as you plan a picnic for Ravinia. Robin Thicke fills his video with titties; Hawthorne opts for dogs in sunglasses instead. We prefer the latter.
