Wreathing of the Lions at Art Institute of Chicago: photo gallery
The Art Institute of Chicago will be presenting its 19th annual "Wreathing of the Lions" ceremony on Friday Nov 26 at 10 am. For the second year in a row, the Art Institute has selected a contemporary design team to recreate the joyful symbol of the holiday season.
This year, husband-and-wife artist duo, Stephanie and Bruce Tharp have designed two wreaths which combine the traditional American cranberry wreath with the idea of a wishing tree.
Each wreath was created to have 2,011 spheres in various shades of red. Inside each sphere will be a wish for the world in 2011. These wishes were all written by Chicago-area schoolchildren, and varied from endearing wishes such as "To help the people in Haiti" to clever ideas like "To have flying cars".
The wreaths are solar powered and will glow at night to help bring a festive feel to Michigan Avenue.

It's okay to be a show-off.
