What better way to build hype for a new HBO series, from executive producers a Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, about the speakeasy era (based on the book by Nelson Johnson) than a party at a speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar? Earlier this week, HBO threw an invite-only cocktail party at Wicker Park's Violet Hour for those chomping at the bit for the premiere of the upcoming Boardwalk Empire, complete with Canadian Club cocktails and comforting bites of brisket and tater tots suited for strategic noshing. Canadian Club was no random choice as the liquor sponsor for the enterprise—it was, as you will see from the first episode (directed by Martin Scorsese himself) of Boardwalk, the iconic Prohibition drink on the Atlantic Coast—though, getting the real thing was another matter all together. Fortunately for us, they were pouring the real thing on Tuesday night—in cocktails such as the gin and C&C High Roller, which my friends and I couldn't get enough of. HBO and Canadian Club will be doing more speakeasy events all month around Boardwalk Empire, I'll be sure to let you know about the next one, but the password? That's another story.
Boardwalk Empire debuts September 19 on HBO. See a trailer after the jump.

It's okay to be a show-off.
