Kumail Nanjiani comes home to the Hideout
Stand-up Kumail Nanjiani is proof that sometimes getting the hell of out dodge is a good thing. The former Chicago comic ditched us a couple years back for New York City and already he's made appearances on SNL, The Colbert Report and the now canceled Michael and Michael Have Issues. One appearance we weren't expecting was at What's Up Tiger Lily? last week at the Hollywood Studio Bar and Grill in Los Angeles. I was there vacationing and taking in comedy every chance I could when Nanjiani showed up for a brief set.
I don't know if Nanjiani was testing out new material or if these were some of his more recent polished bits, but he was by far the funniest comic that night and killed with nerdy ramblings about the X-Files and Lost, coming up with the perfect comeback to a slur and a hilarious bit about racist six-year olds. He also told a self-described "stupid joke" which was actually kind of funny. Nanjianai is making two appearances at the Hideout on Sunday. If you're already a fan or just interested in seeing this guy before he blows up (you're almost too late), definitely check him out.
