The New Pornographers at Lollapalooza 2010: Live review
“Lollapalooza is the best festival,” singer Carl Newman announced during the New Pornographers’ set at the Budweiser Stage. It was nice of him to let the crowd know that the band was enthusiastic, though it went without saying. And it was nice of the crowd to match that enthusiasm, though it was standing in a hot field filled with goose poop. As the (complete) eight-piece Canadian indie band played tambourines, whistled and sang simple sing-along choruses with words like “Hey la, hey la, hey la.” Neko Case wore a floppy sun hat and apologized for not being as spectacularly dressed as the chart topping headliner. Smiling fans—like the girl in front of me, wearing purple sequins, who knew every word of every song—jumped and danced as if Grant Park were a sea of sunflowers and rainbows It was just pure fun.
