Fucked Up's Damian Abraham at Concertina Gallery: Photo Gallery
The only visible marking on the 2351 N. Milwaukee Ave. entrance is a sticker with the logo X420X, the title of the current exhibit. Otherwise, the door is nearly undistinguishable from any other on the street, which is probably because inside, the gallery itself is a typical apartment. That is, of course, if typical apartments invited strangers over to look at art.
Every month since last September the gallery has featured different artists, seamlessly transforming the space according to their needs. This time, Damian Abraham a.k.a. Pink Eyes, frontman of the hardcore band Fucked Up, brought his set of illustrations, specifically the somewhat perverted version of the alphabet A to Z. Abraham laughs when prompted to make this the new learning tool for children, saying he believes kids should be confronted with reality at an early age. "A is for anthrax and B is for botulism," he jokes. I'm not sold on the idea myself, but I am impressed by the attention given to the execution of the illustrations and each cut out shape.
Originally intended as a one night only event, the exhibition hours have now been extended to include Sunday, February 21st.
