Indian dance options
I just learned that Natya Dance Theatre, known for excellence in Indian classical dance, offers ongoing classes in the south Indian style of bharatanatyam for kids and adults at Dance Center Chicago (3868 N Lincoln Ave), a studio that is mostly known for ballroom dancing.
Classes in this elegant, formal dance are ongoing, taking place on Saturday mornings and are geared toward beginners. Contact Bill Jordan, 312-212-1240 or firstname.lastname@example.org, a day or two ahead of time if you plan to attend.
Also, on Thursday evenings, choreographer Archana Kumar teaches kathak, the rhythmic north Indian style that gave rise to Spanish flamenco, in the tiny Perceptual Motion Studio (4057 N Damen Ave at Belle Plaine). Contact Kumar for details at 773-600-2282 or email@example.com.
