Luna Negra's Vilaro takes a job in New York
When it rains, it pours. In addition to the leadership transitions at Links Hall, Hubbard Street and Giordano Jazz, add Luna Negra Dance Theater to the list.
It's just been announced that Luna's founding artistic director, Eduardo Vilaro, will take the artistic helm of Ballet Hispanico (in NYC) starting August 1. Vilaro is a former dancer with that company.
Rehearsal director and choreographer Michelle Manzanales will serve as interim artistic director during the search for Vilaro’s successor. Meanwhile, Vilaro will continue to have a relationship with Luna, by serving as an ex officio member of the board of directors. He'll also return to Chicago to choreograph a new work, a collaboration with Latin jazz legend Paquito D’Riviera and Turtle Island String Quartet, to be staged at the Harris Theater in October 2009.
